Every person faces conflict

There are positive and negative outcomes to conflict. What makes conflict negative or positive is the way in which it is handled. This course teaches participants how to manage emotions during conflict while working collaboratively toward a win/win resolution. Participants will complete a conflict style assessment, learn the five styles of conflict, and identify their dominant style.

Workshop objectives:

  • Identify exactly what conflict is, why it arises and how it can be utilized for maximum benefit;
  • To recognize the various stages of conflict and preventing them from escalating;
  • To deal with conflict with a greater awareness of the conflict management style of themselves and others;
  • To utilize  variety of methods for managing conflict successfully;
  • To apply methods that can use invest less time and energy in conflict and creating more productive relationships with others.

Upon completion of the course, participants will be able to:-

  • Define conflict.
  • Identify assumptions of conflict.
  • Explain the escalation of disagreement into conflict.
  • Recognize the five styles of conflict resolution and the benefits and pitfalls of each style.
  • Understand your preferred style of conflict resolution.
  • Apply the six steps to collaborative conflict resolution.
  • Apply techniques to managing emotions during conflict.
  • Discuss the effect that power has on conflict resolution.
  • Implement a strategy for continuous conflict management.

This program is for all employees working in an organization where conflict may occur or where stressful client relations may be encountered. It is however, primarily aimed at managers, and team leaders who will have to intervene and rectify or adjudicate in conflict situations.
